As one of Canada’s largest banks, BMO Bank of Montreal’s automated teller machines (ATMs) are found across the country. These machines allow BMO customers to make withdrawals and deposits, but can also be used by customers of other banks to withdraw cash. Here’s what we think about BMO’s ATMs.

What currency denominations can I withdraw at a BMO machine?

In terms of choice, BMO’s ATMs stand out, offering $5, $20 and $50 bills. While other Canadian bank machines offer up to four different Canadian currency denominations, this is one area where BMO stands out, as many competitor machines only offer $20 bills. What’s more, BMO machines allow users to choose the denominations they want to withdraw.

What are the withdrawal fees for non-customers?

Of course, BMO customers can make withdrawals without paying a convenience fee at all BMO ATMs. However, if you are not a BMO customer, you will be charged a $3 convenience fee, plus any other fees charged by your financial institution.

The convenience fee does not represent the entire cost of withdrawing money from an ATM of a bank where you are not a customer. In addition to the convenience fee, there may be an Interac access fee, between $0 and $1.90, and a transaction fee between $0 and $2. Of course, you won’t pay any additional transaction fees if your banking package includes a certain number of transactions per month, or if you have a no-fee Canadian chequing account. According to the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada, the total fee for withdrawing money from another bank’s ATM ranges from $1 to $7.90, and the fee for withdrawing money from a private ATM ranges from $1.50 to $8.90!

How do you make a deposit at a BMO bank machine?

BMO ABMs are state-of-the-art, so BMO customers can deposit cash or cheques by inserting them directly into the deposit slots. This envelope-free technology allows for faster deposit processing. Plus it eliminates the need for BMO customers to reschedule deposits due to envelope shortages.

How do you find a BMO ATM?

BMO ATMs are available at most BMO bank branches, as well as at many stores and shopping centres. The easiest way to find the BMO ATM nearest you is to use the BMO ABM Locator. Simply enter your postal code or city and the locator generates a map showing nearby BMO ATMs.
