The Chairperson of the Board of Directors is the leader of a company’s board of directors. In this role, the Chairperson of the Board acts as the shareholders’ main representative and is responsible to defend their interests.

While it is well known that a company’s most senior person is the CEO, the Chairperson of the Board is actually the person with the most power. They, in particular, along with the board of directors, have the power to appoint and even dismiss the CEO. With that said, a company’s CEO is often a member of the board of directors and is thus involved in making important decisions, just like the other members of the board.
