In terms of reward programs, Aeroplan is one of the most valuable and flexible ones in Canada. With rewards like free flights, seat upgrades and vacation packages, the Aeroplan Reward program helps Canadians travel farther for less by offering several ways for members to earn points, like by shopping at retail partners or using an Aeroplan credit card. For caffeine aficionados, one of the most convenient Aeroplan partnerships is with Starbucks. Aeroplan’s partnership with Starbucks allows coffee lovers to earn points by ordering their favourite drinks in-store and online through the app.

Not only that, but members of both Aeroplan and Starbucks Rewards can link their two accounts for even more value. Plus, Aeroplan points can be converted to Starbucks Rewards and redeemed for free drinks, food and merchandise.

So, how much are Aeroplan points worth at Starbucks, how do you convert Aeroplan points to Starbucks Rewards, and how do you link your Aeroplan account to a Starbucks Rewards account? Keep reading to find out.

What are Starbucks Rewards?

Starbucks Rewards is Starbucks’ loyalty program. Their points are called Starbucks Stars, and collectors can redeem their Stars for free drinks, food and Starbucks merchandise. There are 5 reward tiers that members can choose from:

  • 25 Stars get you a free shot of espresso, a free dairy substitute or a free flavoured syrup
  • 100 Stars get you a free hot or iced coffee or tea, a bakery item or a prepackaged snack.
  • 200 Stars get you a free handcrafted drink of choice or a breakfast item
  • 300 Stars get you a free lunch or a bag of coffee
  • 400 Stars gets you free Starbucks merch worth up to $20 like Starbucks cups or tumblers

Starbucks Rewards members get access to exclusive offers and perks like a free birthday drink or a free in-store refill, easy ordering through the app, and chances to earn even more Stars through members-only games, Double Star Days, and Bonus Star Challenges.

So, how do you earn Starbucks Stars? Members earn Stars on Starbucks purchases. $1 spent will earn you 1 Star if you pay with cash or a debit or credit card in-store. You’ll also earn 1 Star for every $1 if you order through the app and pay using a saved credit or debit card or your PayPal account.

If you preload funds to a Starbucks Digital Card, you’ll earn Starbucks Rewards at twice the rate. You’ll earn 2 stars for every $1 spent on a preloaded card, including registered gift cards.

For even more earning potential, link any Aeroplan credit card to your Starbucks Rewards account and pay for purchases in the app. The TD Travel First Class Visa Infinite Card, the TD Platinum Travel Visa Card, and the TD Rewards Visa Card earn Aeroplan points and 50% more Stars at Starbucks, so you can earn rewards faster and use them how you want.

To link your Aeroplan and Starbucks Rewards accounts, you’ll first need to sign in to your Aeroplan account. Once on the home screen, scroll down until you see the Starbucks Rewards offers. If you’re not yet a Starbucks Rewards member, you can open an account and earn a welcome bonus of 500 Aeroplan points by purchasing Starbucks within 7 days.

You can easily link your Aeroplan and Starbucks Rewards accounts by clicking the link, following the prompts, and signing into your Starbucks Rewards account. Once the accounts are linked, you can convert your Aeroplan points to Starbucks Rewards points. Plus, members who link their accounts can earn more Aeroplan points just by loading their digital Starbucks Card via the app.

Load $75 or more to your digital Starbucks Card in one transaction and earn 100 Aeroplan points. Load any amount between $50 – $74.99 for 25 Aeroplan points.

How to Convert Aeroplan Points to Starbucks Stars

If you don’t have any travel plans for the foreseeable future, you can use your Aeroplan Points at Starbucks by converting them to Stars instead. Aeroplan points can be converted to Stars at a ratio of 4 to 1.

  • 400 points equals 100 Stars
  • 800 points equals 200 Stars
  • 1200 points equals 300 Stars
  • 1600 points equal 400 Stars

To convert your Aeroplan points to Stars, click on ‘Convert Here’ from your Aeroplan dashboard and follow the prompts. Once Aeroplan points have been converted to Stars, they can’t be converted back and will expire 6 months from the conversion date.

The Bottom Line

You can get even more value from your Aeroplan points by converting them to Starbucks Rewards points, especially if you’re an avid coffee drinker. In terms of monetary value, Starbucks Stars are worth less than Aeroplan Points. However, converting them is still a good option if you don’t have any travel plans coming up or have a stockpile of Aeroplan points that are set to expire.
